VELOY JOSEPH VIGIL
American (1931-1997)
Veloy Joseph Vigil was an abstract painter of Native American figures in watercolor, oil and acrylic. Born in 1931 in Denver, Vigil grew up on a ranch in Colorado and participated in rodeos. Cited in Who's Who in American Art, he served in the U. S. Marine Corps and then attended the Colorado Institute of Art and the Denver Art Academy. He worked as a commercial artist and as an art director at American Greeting Card company and the Buzza Cardoza card company. His unique approach to painting was to break up shapes and masses in his mind while he would lay the color down. In Taos and Santa Fe, New Mexico, Vigil's wife Elena and family sell his work through Gallery Elena.
His work has been featured in Southwest Art and Art Talk magazine.
